Thursday, 8 October 2026

The Cyprus Football Association participated in the 3rd Transnational Project Meeting (TPM3) of the Erasmus+ Sport project “Tackling the Mental Health Stigma in Youth Football (TEAM)”, which was held in Madrid and hosted by project partner Fundación Red Deporte y Cooperación.

The meeting took place at the Meta offices and brought together representatives from the organisations participating in the project, with the aim of reviewing the progress achieved to date, exchanging knowledge and experiences, and coordinating the upcoming activities.

The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is the project coordinator, while the project partners are GDA Sports, University of Chieti-Pescara (UdA), University of Thessaly (UTh), Fundación Red Deporte y Cooperación, Associação de Futebol de Bragança (AF Bragança) and the Cyprus Football Association (CFA).

On behalf of the University of Nicosia, Efrosyni Savva coordinated the meeting, contributing to the smooth organisation and implementation of the meeting’s activities.

The CFA was represented by Haralambos Charalambous, International Projects and Programmes Manager, who participated in the discussions and activities relating to the implementation and further development of the project.

Tackling Mental Health Stigma in Youth Football

The TEAM – Tackling the Mental Health Stigma in Youth Football project focuses on addressing challenges related to mental health and well-being in youth football.

Through research, knowledge exchange and the sharing of good practices, the project aims to better understand mental health issues that young people involved in football may face, while also strengthening the knowledge and awareness of players and the people who work with them.

The project will also contribute to the development of a Handbook of Good Practices, providing practical knowledge and guidance to those working in youth football, with the aim of recognising, addressing and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.

Strengthening European Cooperation

The Madrid meeting provided an important opportunity for the partners to assess the progress of the project, exchange experiences and coordinate the upcoming activities and deliverables.

With organisations from Cyprus, Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal, TEAM brings together the experience and expertise of academic institutions, football organisations and organisations active in the field of sport.

For the CFA, participation in the project represents an important opportunity to contribute to the development of knowledge and practical approaches to mental health in youth football, while also supporting the exchange of good practices at European level.

The TEAM project is implemented under the Erasmus+ Sport programme and is co-funded by the European Union.

Break the stigma. Mental strength starts when we feel safe to speak up and be ourselves.
